When looking to replace an old greenhouse, Camellia Taylor, of The Garden Taylor was inspired by a close friend who loves her Tatton greenhouse, and couldn’t talk more highly of Alitex. Camellia had seen other greenhouses at various RHS shows, but felt we were unparalleled in the quality and solidity of our structures. After booking a visit, our Sales Designer Paul went along and had a look at the site and discussed the greenhouse options with Camellia.

The Tatton greenhouse from our National Trust collection was the perfect size for the beloved productive garden. It’s the ideal place to propagate and nurture seedlings, as well as sit amidst the greenery of the plants.

Powder-coated in Olive Green, Camellia felt the colour was the perfect balance of modern and traditional together. Paired with her funky Soho House Berlin tiles from Bert and May, the greenhouse has a contemporary vibe, in harmony with the industrial features such as the side vent levers and internal spandrels.

As a Garden Designer with a home studio, the garden is a hub of activity. Productive areas of the garden tend to be near the house for ease and accessibility, however in this case we switched it up. By putting the Tatton at the end of the garden, but in view from the house, we have changed the dynamic of the space, drawing Camellia and her family up there and utilising the full area.

The L-shaped Traditional Benching and built in planter offer plenty of space to grow a plethora of fruit, veg and flowers. Tomatoes, chillis and cucamelons have done very well this year, as well as scented pelargoniums and succulents! Next on the list is to grow melons, and to introduce some larger potted plants like a lemon tree.

As soon as the greenhouse was installed, Camellia could not wait to get started with sowing lots of seeds. She had them ready and waiting in the wings, and had a big sowing day with lots of her favourites from Chiltern Seeds.

“My top tip to other Alitex owners is to make sure you speak to one of their Sales Designers. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and be bold.”

“When investing in a big structure, the materials you use are an important part of that. We are so pleased with our decision to build the base with reclaimed bricks. Don’t be afraid to be bold and not play it safe.”

I love the brand, their ethos, and I love how the greenhouses are made. For me it was a very simple choice.
