Christmas in your conservatory

Christmas in your conservatory

For many people a conservatory is an area for socialising when the sun is shining, Pimms in hand; lesser known is the fact that this space can be just as enjoyable in the winter months – particularly December. A cosy snug like this, separated from the main reception room, is perfect for transforming in to your very own grotto.

We love this time of year at Alitex and we want to make sure that you get the most out of your conservatory all year round; so we have decided to share our top tips for creating a portal to your very own winter wonderland:

Get the scent right

You may well have a stunning collection of vintage garlands but if they smell a little dusty you’re more likely to be reminded of that leak in the loft! The most favoured Christmas scents tend to hint around cinnamon and spiced fruits but we particularly like this cinnamon and plum Épice candle from Diptyque; not only does it last longer than most other brands but the gorgeous scent is wonderfully nostalgic.

Don’t forget the tree

If you simply cannot bear the thought of moving your Christmas tree and opening your presents away from the roaring fireplace (we don’t blame you), then invest in a smaller 4ft tree for your conservatory. Not only will it add to that perfect scent, it will also give your grotto a focal point.

Let there be light

There is nothing more satisfying then getting home from a long wintery walk and switching on the fairy lights; we say the more the merrier! They create a warm atmosphere at the flick of a switch. If you are not keen on too many electric lights, take a look at battery powered options.

Embrace the Jingle Bell Rock

Your grotto is an environment where you can indulge in all things festive. Have the Christmas hits cd at the ready (make sure it includes Mr Bublé!) and switch it on as soon as you enter.

Show off your creative talent

Turn your conservatory into a Santa’s workshop. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a complete beginner; use the space to produce your very own Christmas presents. Try your hand at some soap making or fashion your own Christmas cards. It’s therapeutic for yourself and great fun with the children or grandchildren!
