A Bespoke Greenhouse for Events

Bespoke lean-to greenhouse

Our client had a desire to reinstate and recreate the unique wooden Messenger glasshouse that they were lucky enough to have in the grounds of their home, which they moved into around 20 years ago.

The original glasshouse, although magical, was sadly beyond repair. Built in 1904 and left abandoned as a working greenhouse in 1959, it was a fast deteriorating ruin, with trees growing out of its roof; the entire structure engulfed in weeds and brambles. It had to be carefully dismantled in order to restore it, replacing with a more durable material than wood in order for it to thrive once again, with little maintenance.

Our client chose Alitex not only because of our excellent reputation but also for our expertise in replicating the traditional Victorian aesthetic. Alitex perfected the detailed plans and created a glasshouse well beyond the client’s expectations and within their budget.

The original glasshouse had unique curved details and had neither finials or crested details, therefore the brief was to maintain this aesthetic, creating clean and simple lines.

Our client was pleased with how professional and efficient Alitex were, as well as in tune with what they wanted. What stood out most for them was the joy of working with a traditionally British company with such high standards, who work hard as a team and not only take great pride in their work but clearly enjoy what they do.

Our client was particularly inspired to choose Alitex after meeting with Senior Sales Director Chris Sawyer who endorsed their belief that a project is not just about the finished article but the great satisfaction gained from planning and watching the structure evolve. Phill Newsom, who was Project Manager for this greenhouse, ensured that every aspect of the project went smoothly, going above and beyond with his meticulous attention to detail.

The new glasshouse, now finished, is settling well into its site, attached to its original wall which separates but also joins it to the original potting sheds and boiler house brickwork complex at the back, now restored and developed into accommodation.

The glasshouse no longer houses plants but instead is a perfect place for family to relax in and host events, as well as providing  additional accommodation for guests. It is also available to hire as a unique venue for events, photoshoots and accommodation.
