On June 27 this year the new glasshouse at Logan Botanic Gardens in Scotland (part of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh) opened with a fanfare, attracting the attention of the BBC who featured the structure on a recent programme (Beechgrove Garden).

There is a great deal of interest in all things sustainable for obvious reasons, but we believe this to be the first carbon neutral glasshouse open to the public in the UK – which is some headline.
How do we make a difference?
At Alitex HQ we installed solar panels two years ago and already we are seeing the benefits which brings a smile to the faces of the Alitex Sustainability Team. We have saved 43.4 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide from being pumped into the atmosphere, generating 101,000kWh of electricity. Other considerations have included changing over 60 light bulbs, buying a new more efficient oven in the factory to bake our powder coated aluminium on and over the years ensuring that we are recycling not land-filling as much as possible of our cardboards, plastics and polystyrenes.
Our on-going commitment to sustainability ensures that we keep making improvements wherever we see that we can make a difference. As understanding of sustainability advances and our confidence with exploring alternative energy sources grows stronger, we hope that there will be more projects like Logan here at Alitex.
