At Alitex, we specialise exclusively in the design, manufacture and installation of aluminium greenhouses. Therefore, we are unable to accept projects where the original timber components of the greenhouse are to be retained, as this would compromise the structural integrity of our Alitex greenhouses.
Like many timber structures over time, they become beyond repair. We recommend replacing it with an aluminium replica which provides a low-maintenance alternative and a life-time guarantee.
The design of our aluminium greenhouses means that the traditional Victorian aesthetic of timber structures can be adhered to. With a larger profile, our Thomas Messenger greenhouses were inspired by the Victorian engineer himself and are the favoured style for those with sensitive sites, including those with listed properties.
When it comes to the colour of your greenhouse we have a standard range, some of which are inspired by the beautiful surrounds of the South Downs National Park. However, we also offer bespoke colour matching if required. Discover more about our greenhouse colours here.
Greenhouse Replacement Projects
We have undergone and completely rebuilt a variety of structures, restoring them to their former glory but with a timeless quality that allows these structures to stand the test of time.
Some of the replication and restoration projects we have been involved in include:
Fulham Palace – When we created the design for the walled garden at Fulham Palace, we ensured appropriate testing was carried out during a site survey. This allowed us to easily overcome the challenges of the curved wall when building the greenhouse. The finished structure was a modern technological feat.
Glenbervie Estate – The project at Glenbervie allowed us to show our extensive capabilities for reproducing an exact replica of an original timber glasshouse. The client was presented with two designs, of which they chose one that improved the functionality of the guttering and ventilation. They were particularly impressed with the finer details such as the replication of the original glasshouse beading, castings of the finials and cresting and the curved vine supports for optimal growing.
Ramsey Abbey Walled Kitchen Garden - The walled kitchen garden at Ramsey Abbey needed a new aluminium greenhouse to replace an area that three derelict timber structures existed. Alitex were tasked with replacing them with one large glasshouse than spanned 25.5 metres. This structure was a traditional ¾ lean-to design that filled the space effortlessly.
Cambo Estate – Cambo Country Estate and Garden in Scotland wanted to replicate four original glasshouses with durable Victorian aluminium structures. Alitex were deemed the only company suitable for the project whilst keeping the original Victorian characteristics.
