B-Corp | Alitex Greenhouses
We are incredibly excited – and, if we’re honest, quite proud – to share the news that we are now a certified B-Corp.
This is a hard-earned accreditation, and one that means a great deal to us. It reflects the seriousness with which we approach not only how we operate as a business, but also how we define and measure success at Alitex. Becoming a B-Corp is not about meeting a single standard; it’s about embedding a philosophy that balances purpose and profit, and holds us accountable to our people, our community, and the environment.
Since joining the business in 1991, Tom has placed a strong emphasis on building a positive team culture and fostering meaningful connections within our wider community. Over time, these values have become deeply rooted in how we work every day – they are no longer aspirations, but a way of life at Alitex.
Our move to Torberry Farm in 2001 marked another important chapter in this journey. Having a place to call home has given us a deeper sense of responsibility – not just to our immediate surroundings, but to the land itself. From this foundation, our environmental awareness has continued to grow year on year.

In the past five years in particular, the formation of our Sustainability Team has been a pivotal step forward. Their work has helped us to take a more rigorous and honest look at our carbon footprint, challenge long-standing processes, and invest in internal education so that everyone in the business can play a part in driving change. It’s an ongoing process of learning, questioning, and improving.
Achieving B-Corp certification is a significant milestone – but it is by no means the finish line. It represents a commitment to continuous progress, transparency, and accountability. It’s not just a badge; it’s a framework that will guide our decisions and push us to keep raising the bar.
There is still much to do, and we know the journey ahead won’t always be easy. But it is one we are fully committed to. We look forward to sharing more of what we learn along the way, celebrating progress where we can, and being open about the challenges too, as we continue striving to do better and move steadily towards our goal of net zero – one step at a time.

Our journey began with Ethy
After going with our gut on ‘what felt right’ for our first decade at Torberry Farm, we started searching for a framework to help us to formalise, understand and set clear sustainable targets. We sifted through A LOT of carbon offsetting companies who seemed to have no interest in actual behaviour change, and then came across Ethy. A little like the Sustainability Scouts, we work towards badges with clearly laid out standards in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which helped us on our path to B-Corp accreditation.
