If you happened to catch up with any of the BBC coverage of RHS Chelsea Flower Show this year – or indeed if you were lucky enough to get tickets, you may have seen Jim Durrant from McBeans Orchids who had been at the very first Chelsea and still “growing”, strong. (Pardon the pun!)
Jim is a great friend of Alitex and aside from bumping into him at Chelsea over the last 50 years we have been exhibiting, he has also been to our HQ at Torberry, near Petersfield to present talks on how best to care for your orchids and orchid collections. They are always very popular talks, often held when it is cold outside and we can only imagine the heady scents of summer and blossom; the orchids fill the conservatory with their fragrance, and lift our spirits.
To celebrate our 60th birthday year we are having a bumper open day and Jim has found time in his busy schedule to come along and talk to us about his wonderful orchid collection. It never fails to fascinate and the breadth of his knowledge and experience ensures that he is an authority on orchids.
Jim will present his talk at 11am on Saturday 29 June – our summer Open Day.
