One of the great things about working at Alitex is that you get to meet and work with people at the top of their game; at the pinnacle of their profession and in very competitive industries.
In particular, it is a privilege and honour to work alongside the good and great of the horticultural world, learning from each other and forming genuine working relationships and friendships with the common goal of doing the very best we can whilst enjoying the journey. Every so often awards are given to publicly mark an individual's accomplishments and there is nothing we like more than joining in with this type of celebration. We thought it was time Alitex shared the achievements of these award winning individuals in our blog. If there are any awards we have missed, or indeed horticultural achievers you would like to see celebrated on these pages, please do let us know.
Sarah wins twice!
Sarah Wain of West Dean Gardens has been awarded not one, but two awards, in recognition of her role in transforming West Dean Gardens over the past 21 years from its neglected state to the visitor attraction that it is today. The Professional Gardeners’ Guild Loyal and Outstanding Service Award and The Institute of Horticulture’s Achievement in Horticulture Award.
Sarah Wain commented on her double whammy: “To receive one award is lovely; to be receiving two in a month is astonishing! To be recognised and rewarded by one’s peers is always a humbling experience, particularly in light of all the magnificent work carried out by both the Professional Gardeners’ Guild and the Institute of Horticulture. I see these Awards as recognition for all those who have shared in the redevelopment of West Dean Gardens over the past twenty years or so. Firstly, my husband Jim Buckland with whom it’s been an illuminating and energetic twenty five years of working together; secondly, all my excellent gardening colleagues - it’s been a pleasure."
Sarah is a great friend of Alitex and we all congratulate her on this well earned success. Jim Buckland achieved the high accolade of the RHS Associate of Honour for his work at West Dean earlier in the year, which we celebrated in a summer blog. Jim and Sarah are certainly a winning pair and we strongly recommend a visit to see the transformation of West Dean Gardens under their stewardship.
The Gardens opening times are: March – October 10.30am – 5.00pm and November – February 10.30am – 4.00pm (closed 24 December – 31 January). Click here.
