2014 was a jam-packed year for Alitex and there were plenty of firsts...
Fifteen intrepid souls formed ‘The Alitex Peloton’ cycling 217 miles over two days with the Tour de Force raising over £18,000 for the William Wates Memorial Trust. The year started with some gruelling training sessions in the rain but in Tom’s mind it made us real ‘roadies’.
We’ve been up and down the country, in fact all over the globe - putting up greenhouses, going to shows, hosting events – Chelsea feels like a lifetime ago! Talking of Chelsea we mixed things up with a bronze Scotney from the National Trust Collection combined with hot colours and cocktail bar (surely this should come as standard with every Alitex!), this was counterbalanced with a very traditional Messenger greenhouse with the obligatory armchair. You may have seen us at Hampton Court, Tatton and even Wisley flower shows.
We’ve been delighted to install some amazing greenhouses this year we simply can’t mention them all, but we will name drop just a few... the Director’s own private greenhouse at Kew Gardens, two very fine looking greenhouses at Dumfries House and Logan Botanic Gardens to house all their tropical plants. Not forgetting the longest conservatory we have built at Bowcliffe Hall. That’s not to mention well over a hundred other Alitex structures popping up this year. In between all that, we even managed an utterly bespoke project, a telescopic greenhouse come cold frame – we’ll be blogging this story very soon.
We even managed an Alitex Cricket match on a balmy summer’s evening. The score was a draw and with only the one errant cricket ball! We’re all now experts at mulching after a day of volunteering at Kew Gardens.
Cleve West ensured our annual lecture was a roaring success... a sigh of relief... as it was the first time we held it at our home, Torberry Farm. Over one hundred guests took to their seats in our factory which was a sight to behold. Hot on the heels of the lecture we held our first Home and Gardens day – we’ll be repeating both next year – watch this space.
The Alitex family grew with a number of new faces joining the team and for those of you that know Chris, he celebrated his 40th year at Alitex – now there is someone with some stories to tell!
All that’s left is to wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
We hope to catch up with you in 2015.
