In recent weeks we were fortunate enough to secure the services of West Dean’s Gardens Supervisor Sarah Wain in a day’s instruction for Glasshouse Management.
We have had a number of customers recently who were relative beginners to greenhouse gardening and it seemed good timing to introduce them to Sarah. Many of the Alitex team have enjoyed this bespoke talk with Sarah before, so we felt very confident that our customers would, at the very least, come away with lots of good ideas.
The BBC's Gardeners Question Time was recorded at West Dean Gardens recently (aired tomorrow at 3pm) and everyone had the opportunity to admire the sterling work of Sarah, Jim Buckland and the gardening team. The beautiful displays of plants and fruits at West Dean don’t come without a lot of hard graft of course and Sarah explained it is all necessary for visitors to continually have something to see and be inspired by.
“I was very impressed by the depth of care and level of organisation which goes on behind the scenes at West Dean. I have visited their walled garden on two previous occasions but on neither of these visits have I appreciated or taken in as much as I did when guided by Sarah on Friday.” Reports a customer.
A thorough tour of the glasshouses, ideas for growing, discussion of pest control and many top tips for cleaning and healthy plants, armed our customers with the confidence they needed for their own Alitex glasshouse.
“I found Sarah Wain incredibly easy to listen to and her knowledge of her subject is impressive. For a novice like myself, her inclusion of coverage of all the basics was valuable and interesting and I now feel that I have a much better understanding of what we will be putting in place in our own glasshouse.” Wrote one of our customers after the event.
Everyone took copious notes and photographs in an effort to capture the information waterfall that Sarah is. She is like the Oracle for those in search of glasshouse growing "meaning."
West Dean and Sarah’s commitment are “a fine example of the standards we aspire to achieve in years to come, albeit on a very much smaller scale.”
Jo from Alitex attended and said “I feel much better informed. I thought Sarah was excellent: she really loves her job and this comes through in spades. The gardens and greenhouses are beautiful and the variety within definitely holds interest.“
We hope that all attendees were filled with new inspiration and a renewed excitement to get growing in their Alitex greenhouse and as ever – a huge thank you to Sarah Wain of West Dean Walled Gardens.
