Before looking forward to the New Year I always think it sensible to reflect on the year just gone. 2013 did not possess the same country wide celebrations as 2012, but here at Alitex we had a 60th Birthday to enjoy – and enjoy it we did. The assorted events cumulated in a wonderful birthday ‘fete’ held at Torberry Farm on a warm June evening; we were delighted to be joined by friends spanning the entire 60yrs (well almost!)
We had a couple of “firsts”, this year – our first ever solo visit to Hampton Court, and what a success that was, and our first ever greenhouse to Australia – and we have two more going in early 2014! 2013 was also a great year for a European rebound – with two £100,000+ structures being installed in Germany and Denmark.
We were honoured to build two glasshouses for the Great Steward of Scotland at Dumfries House and a soon to be installed greenhouse for the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (Logan Botanic Garden) demonstrates the depth of horticulture heritage north of the border.
Closer to home we continue to expand our team back at Torberry Farm - we need to, since 2013 will go down as the year that our conservatory business really started to motor. It seems that we are onto something here and whilst greenhouses will always be our first love, I am delighted to note that our conservatory customers seem just as satisfied.
With such a head of steam 2014 is full of promise. We already have three very exciting projects in hand, one in Florida, one in the south of France and one in Cornwall; now that’s a travel log worth having!
On a personal note I am looking forward to joining fourteen other Alitex cyclists in taking on two stages of the Tour De Force (a fundraising initiative which follows the Tour de France route) next July. Whilst the notorious cobbles of Belgium fame and the rolling hills of Champagne await come the summer – we have many wet & windy & cold miles to cover before we get there. Wish us luck!
Throughout the year we have a number of events to which you are very welcome to join us - keep up with our news here and also @Alitex on Twitter.
Happy New Year.
