With a property built in the 1890’s, our client wanted a glasshouse that would fit harmoniously with the traditional era.

Our client’s house was intended to be the Gardener’s cottage to serve the Manor. In its day the surrounding walled garden would have supported glasshouses around the entire perimeter. Our client’s ambition was to reinstate the garden design with a glasshouse that would be the focal point of the walled garden.

“We visited your showroom at Petersfield, which really showcased the quality of your product. We found the design of your range really captured a traditional era of quality and magnificence.”

The structure our clients chose is a bespoke greenhouse, designed using our Thomas Messenger inspired glazing system. It is a very traditional design, capturing the Victorian aesthetics of original glasshouses. They chose the colour Downland Stone (BS10B15) for the powder-coating which blends with the property and is complemented by the wall and summer trees behind.

Working with structural engineers we have been able to help our client create the appearance that the glasshouse is supported by the exiting exterior garden wall, where in fact it sits independently. Our client is pleased with the glasshouse, commenting on the beauty of the design and how it continues to inspire the development of their garden design.

Inside the glasshouse is currently used for propagation and bringing on seedlings, perfect in the summer heat and for protection during winter. It is also filled with cacti and exotic plants, including a Bird of Paradise, American Pitcher Plant and a Banana Plant.
