As we head into the Christmas break, we could not be more preoccupied with events for next May! Thank goodness the Christmas shopping is pretty much done.
Our stand at RHS Chelsea is one of our high points of the year, and its preparation is along the lines of the fabled painting of the Forth Road Bridge! We are now on version 3 (and hope it stays that way!) and are planning a busy kitchen garden theme for the stand.
We have already had a really positive meeting with the gardening charity Thrive who are based in Battersea Park and are growing for our stand again in their greenhouse in the Herb Garden. Steve and his team will be trying to beat the record for the tallest tomato plant for next May and how many ripe tomatoes we can have by that all important week. Here at Torberry farm we are well equipped with greenhouses and Uncle Jim’s horticultural expertise so will start sowing seeds in earnest in 2 weeks.
So it will be fingers crossed and an even more tense run up to Chelsea as we try to nurture our own plants as well as get everything else right next May. It will give us a real insight into the trials of the nurserymen’s journey every year – watch this space!
