On Saturday 13th May the new Alitex glasshouse at Ramsey Walled Garden was officially opened by Bunny Guinness. The event was a success, people from all over Ramsey and the local area came to celebrate the ribbon cutting.
The garden is situated in the heart of Ramsey Abbey, it is an enchanting secret dedicated to growing fruit, vegetables and flowers which originated in Cambridgeshire. The restoration project is maintained by volunteers and the Ramsey Abbey Walled Kitchen Garden Trust. You can read more about the history here.
The glasshouse was funded by the generous legacy of the late John Drake MBE. John was a dedicated and generous individual, so many kind words and memories were shared during the event. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the work to re-establish the garden and his memory will live on through not only his friends and family, but also through the beautiful garden.
Whilst a talented harpist from the Ramsey Arts Festival provided entertainment and a calming atmosphere, guests explored the garden and discovered the hidden gems within. Bunny Guinness cut the ribbon to commemorate the opening and the trustees announced the garden as officially open!
We recommend you visit the enchanting secret garden for yourself. It is open on Sunday afternoons and bank holidays 2pm - 5pm, visit their website for more details.
