“For me, garden design isn’t just about plants, it is about emotion, atmosphere, a sense of contemplation. You try to move people with what you do. You look at this, and it goes deeper than what you see. It reminds you of something in the genes - nature, or the longing for nature.”
– Piet Oudolf
Lifetime Achievement award winner Piet Oudolf is joining the Garden Masterclass events this year with a screening of his film Five Seasons on the 4th April at the Yeo Valley Organic Gardens in Somerset. A walk through the beautiful gardens will be followed by a screening of Oudolf’s film, taking the audience on a journey into this inspirational garden designer’s design process and his theories on beauty. Travelling the world for inspiration and visiting some of the signature works he created in America and Europe, this philosophical and contemplative film is inspiring and beautiful.
Piet Oudolf’s passion for garden design started when he set up a nursery with his wife to introduce and grow various perennials, supporting his own design business in the Netherlands at the time. From 25 Piet has maintained a life-long career in horticulture, Co-Founding the company Future Plants, writing many books and designing exceptional gardens in some unique locations, to now creating a film.
