Each year for the last five, the Alitex team and friends, dogs and weekend guests have got together to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer research and education work, by doing a sponsored walk – a “crocus walk”.
We are always talking about the wonderful part of the world in which we live, with our very own birds of paradise – the pheasant, the red kite and pretty jays overhead. This is the perfect opportunity for us all to kick back with family and friends and take things easy, enjoying the natural world around us and raising money in the process.
Lots of people around the UK organise similar walks, with the same goal to enjoy a good walk and raise money for this worthwhile cause. Over 40,000 women and 300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK, so the disease is having a devastating affect on thousands of families every day. Breakthrough Breast Cancer's vision is a future free from the fear of breast cancer. The organisation is the leading UK charity dedicated to fighting breast cancer through research and education and it needs to raise at least £10 million every year to fund its programme.Sponsorship income from the Crocus Walks events helps to meet this challenge, and so far Alitex has raised £10,000 over five years, which we are delighted with.
Any familiar faces? Nelly at the front of the top image attached to two dogs (more of a husky-sled arrangement!) and Norma, Jess and Fiona (L-R) in the image below.
Just in case you would like to have a good walk with friendly faces here are the details of our walk:
Meet at Petersfield Market Square prepared for a 9.30am departure
The Hangers Way from Petersfield to the back of Queen Elizabeth Park, then picking up the Staunton Way to Rowlands Castle. 10.5 miles – gently undulating – no killer hills, and some stunning views. We end at the Robin Hood pub in Rowlands Castle, which has a good array of food, including sandwiches etc. There is a big green in front, so lots of space to collapse and soothe your blisters! If you do plan to have lunch, it is probably worth booking a table.
Our money raising plan
Please spend the next couple of weeks getting together some donations; we have set up a just giving page to make that easier, click here.
Cash is good and any cheques need to be made payable to Breakthrough Breast Cancer. A minimum donation to join the walk of £5 is what we usually ask of people.
Any questions please get in touch or click here to find out more.
Fingers crossed for a fine day!
