Choice of two glazing systems
Traditional structures are made in two glazing systems – The Messenger and The Traditional.
The Messenger
This glazing system was created in response to the growing demands for timber replication in aluminium. It was inspired by the world famous Thomas Messenger, who designed beautiful yet functional glasshouses in the 19th century. His attention to detail and drive for perfection did much to create and spread Britain’s reputation for great gardens around the globe.
The development of a mechanism to hide all fixings within the body of the structure, an aluminium door which matches the beautiful timber doors in both look and weight, and a specialist clipping system which holds the glass in place without screws has created a greenhouse that answers the many needs of Britain’s period manors, heritage sites, conservation officers and even America’s tough planning laws.
The Messenger system was first used for a wonderful private estate in Buckinghamshire. The original Victorian plant and pit houses had been replaced with new timber structures but within 12 years they had already started to rot. Alitex were able to replicate the timber extrusions and fine design details in aluminium in order to satisfy both the strict listing requirements of the planners and the aesthetic needs of the customer.
The Traditional
The Traditional Greenhouse matches the engineering excellence of the Messenger and, whilst the internal fixings of the greenhouse are visible, the elegant lines and proportions of the structure compare favourably with the very finest greenhouses in production today.
