  Alitex at Chelsea 1963 - Our First Year!2008 will be the 85th year of the Chelsea Flower Show and astonishingly Alitex has been there for 45 of those years! We now expect to see 157,000 visitors to what has become the most prestigious annual gardening showcase in the UK and an event that is recognised by both professional and amateur gardeners from around the globe. As soon as the show is over we start to plan for the next one. Just getting the site ready for opening takes 3 weeks as all building work, hard landscaping, planting and of course building of greenhouses has to be done from scratch. Everyone arrives to a bare patch of ground so horticultural miracles really do take place. We can’t win gold medals – that is the realm of the gardens and plants - but as a Sundries Exhibitor we can win certificates of merit. Each year there are a handful of Sundries Trophies awarded for stands of the highest quality so maybe this year will be our year. Let’s hope so. You can always find us in our fantastic position on Main Avenue. That alone is the greatest motivation to make every detail perfect as we rub shoulders with the Show Gardens.
