Update your old Alitex

Update your old Alitex

You may well be the owner of an elderly or ageing Alitex greenhouse, wondering what you can do to restore it to its former glory; or you may want to retrospectively install growing supports or vine wires to maximise your growing potential.

Here are just some of the things we can offer you, however if you cannot find exactly what you are considering, please give us a call and we will be happy to chat through your ideas and see what we can do.

Maintenance and updating

Around 10 years ago, a team at Alitex set up a service called PDM, the initials of the three founding members. The purpose was to restore, update and reglaze old Alitex greenhouses. And the services have proved very popular. If you would like to find out more about updating your old Alitex, please give us a call and ask to speak to Paul Hewitt – or drop him an email on paul.hewitt@alitex.co.uk

Re-glaze your old Alitex

In 1996 we changed from putty to foam inseal. Putty eventually dries and cracks which causes leaks whereas foam inseal does not. A re-glaze entails cleaning out the old putty, before fitting new glass using with foam inseal.

Update your old Alitex

The plastic capping we used years ago has now been replaced completely with aluminium. We can update your greenhouse with a clean and retro fit aluminium capping. If your original Alitex greenhouse did not have cresting fitted, we can also fit this retrospectively should you wish.

Customise your Alitex

PDM can also carry out alterations to make sure your greenhouse still fully meets your needs. For instance, fitting vine wires, installing irrigation systems and adding a screen door to keep the cats out!

Maintain your Alitex

As with many things, the parts that get the most use may need replacing. We stock a full range of spare parts which we can fit or provide instructions for you to do it yourself. We recommend the following items are done by us: Bayliss pistons, reservoir pumps and re-tensioning your shades.

The most important greenhouse maintenance is to keep your greenhouse clean and tidy. Ideally anything newly introduced into your greenhouse should be clean, and if possible, sterilised – certainly where soil or compost are concerned. The warm humid environment is ideal for many pests and diseases which lie dormant in old potting and seed compost.

For a really thorough annual clean why not try our Clean and Care service.

I required a beautiful traditional looking glasshouse without the maintenance issues of wood. You provided me with the solution; a structure designed and engineered to a level unsurpassed throughout the industry."
